I have heard that pistachios have a rich history. What is it?

The origin of the pistachio is the continental plateaus of central asia and it was later domesticated by the Persians.

It was introduced into the Iberian peninsula by the Romans in the year 63 of our era by Pompey Crassus.

It flourished during the Muslim rule. But later with the gradual cutting down of the male trees by the christians, the pistachio disappeared from the Iberian countryside.

It has been re-introduce in the 1980’s and is now a very popular alternative to some more traditional crops.

Where are BioNative pistachios grown?

Our farm is in the central-eastern part of the Iberian peninsula in a small town called Villamalea in the province of Albacete in Spain

How are BioNative pistachios grown?

The pistachio variety Kerman, is grafted on a native wild plant called pistacia terebinthus which is perfectly adapted to the Iberian soil and climate conditions. The pistachio tree takes time to grow; a tree is considered mature when it reaches 10 years.

Are BioNative pistachios organic?

Yes they are organically certified.

Are you non-GMO?

Yes, it is a must to comply with the organic certification.

What are biodynamically grown pistachios? And what is the difference between BioNative pistachios and other other pistachios on the market?

We do not use hybrids, the grafting is done on an indigenous wild plant called pistacia terebinthus. This rootstock gives our pistachios a unique creamy pine nutty taste. This is one of the reasons we do not roast or salt our pistachios, not only to maintain all the nutritional benefits but also the organoleptic properties.

Due to the scarce water reserves in our region we insist in maintaining traditional farming methods such as dry land farming where there is no irrigation implemented. We firmly believe that it is necessary to take care of our environment and the natural resources we have, this is why we would like to mention that we are the only pistachio producer in the world certified in Biodynamic agriculture (Demeter) and in Bio-integral agriculture (Arborigen).

Are your products vegan?

Yes they are and we have a vegan register.

Does BioNative use any insecticides or pesticides to grow its pistachios?

The organic certification means we do not use pesticides, insecticides or artificial fertilizers.

Do you process any other nuts or products in your farm/facility?

Yes we also have almonds with the same certifications.

Does your facility contain any dairy or soy products?
